About the Senior Academic Promotions Review

The review is proceeding through several phases as outlined below:

Phase 1

Focused on gathering information on the current process in Trinity and in other Universities. It involved consultation with the university Community on pillars used in promotion including Teaching, Research, Contribution to Discipline and Contribution to College. This phase also included identification and implementation of a mechanism to deal with and clear the Senior Academic Promotions backlog from the previous four calls (2021, 2020, 2019 and 2018). Phase 1 provided the foundation for all further stages of the review. This phase has been completed - see the Phase 1 Report.

Phase 2

The focus of this phase is on reviewing and redesigning the criteria and procedure for Senior Academic Promotions. Phase 2 began formally with a kick-off meeting in September 2024, and since then, the targeted working groups and SAP Review Steering Group have been progressing through a series of tasks designed to bring Trinity towards a new process and procedure. See the update on progress to date, presented in December 2024 to the staff who had participated in the Phase 1 consultation sessions in June 2023.

Phases 3 and 4

The focus of the next phases of this project will be on broader academic assessment, developing a career model and framework to facilitate greater predictability of career prospects for academic staff.
