The 2026 Laidlaw Leadership and Research Scholars Programme is now officially OPEN for applications.

The Laidlaw Scholars Programme aims to develop a new generation of leaders who are skilled researchers, embrace data-based decision making, and will support Scholars to:
  • Carry out a research project with an academic supervisor in Summer 1
  • Undertake an immersive and practical “Leadership-in-action” experience in Summer 2
  • Be part of an intensive 18-month leadership skills development programme
  • Receive generous financial support to the value of €10,000
  • Build a global network of fellow Laidlaw Scholars in an inclusive yet challenging learning community

What's new to the 2026 Laidlaw Scholars Programme?

This year, two pre-defined research projects are available in addition to the option to develop your own research project proposal.

Are you thinking about applying for the Laidlaw Scholars Programme? 

Firstly, Laidlaw is open to ALL second year Trinity students... (or third year students part of a five-year programme, or 2nd or 3rd year students part of a 5-year integrated masters degree programme).

Trinity Careers is commited to actively enabling students from all backgrounds to participate and develop and we particularly welcome applications from students in demographics that are often under-represented in specialist programmes. If you think you are interested but you are not certain if it is “for students like you” – we strongly encourage you to make an application.

The 2026 Laidlaw Leadership and Research Scholars Programme at Trinity is open for applications with a closing date of 12pm (noon) on Tuesday, 10th February 2026. We advise you to begin your application early as there are several parts to be completed.
