Naughton Fellowship

Naughton Fellowships at Trinity College Dublin

About the REU Programme in Ireland

Through the Naughton Fellowship Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programme, undergraduate students from the University of Notre Dame have the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in STEM disciplines at leading Irish universities, including Trinity College Dublin.

Irish undergraduate and master’s students may study at the University of Notre Dame through the fellowship, while undergraduate and master’s students from Notre Dame can travel to Ireland to pursue study and research across fields ranging from Structural Engineering and Marine Biology to Public Health and Data Science and Analytics.

The programme enables motivated students to learn through research while contributing to innovative, real-world projects. Participants work as part of an active research team under the guidance of a Trinity academic mentor, alongside postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students, gaining valuable technical skills and international research experience.

The REU programme runs for approximately ten weeks between May and August. Fellows receive a generous stipend of $9,000 USD to support travel, accommodation, health insurance and living costs during their stay in Ireland. In addition to their research activities, students can take part in cultural enrichment and professional development opportunities designed to enhance their overall experience.

Students participating in the programme are typically accommodated on campus at Trinity College Dublin, or in designated student accommodation, depending on the host institution.

Areas of Study

REU participants may undertake research at one of the Naughton Fellowship partner institutions in Ireland, including Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, University College Cork, University College Dublin and the University of Galway.

Naughton Fellowship–specific research opportunities will be published on this page when applications open. Prospective applicants are encouraged to check back regularly for updated project listings.
