Faculty of Health Sciences Equality Diversity & Inclusion Group

At the behest of the Dean of Health Sciences, the Faculty team have worked to develop a Faculty-level EDI group. Initial explorations were around establishing a formal Faculty EDI committee to look at policies and procedures across the Faculty, with a focus on placements and any other areas very specific to Health Sciences; the establishment of a formal, policy-focused EDI Committee has been placed on-hold until such time that the College-wide EDI policy is finalised, thus preventing any unnecessary and unintended overlap.

In September 2021, the first meeting of the less formal Faculty EDI Group took palce. The scope of this group is to bring together interested parties with enthusiasm for topics of equality, diversity and inclusion. We seek to harness the interest and enthusiasm of those with a willingness to get involved, to create more visibility around EDI in Health Sciences – and we think for now this might look like hosting a series of events, creating an EDI Newsletter for the Faculty, and generating good content for our Faculty and schools' websites. We also hope to use the Faculty EDI Group as a mechanism for sharing information and ideas across the whole Faculty, in a similar way that some of the localised Athena SWAN groups do at school level.
