During 2025, we have continued to grow our global connections and create exciting experiences for our students heading abroad, and for the students of universities around the world visiting Trinity College Dublin.
Global Activity in 2025
January 2025
International Winter School - we welcomed students from the University of Scranton to our International Winter School, where they were immersed in learning about nursing and healthcare in Ireland, and took part in cultural activities.
Erasmus - University of Malta Exchange - Students Grace McNally and Emilie Kelleher went on an Erasmus exchange to the University of Malta.
University of Sydney International Exchange - General Nursing Students, Ruth Little and Moya Flynn, secured School of Nursing and Midwifery scholarships to attend the University of Sydney and undertake an international clinical placement at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.

International Postgraduate Student Lunch - We hosted a lunch for our international students who are studying postgraduate programmes at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, to hear more about their experiences of studying at Trinity College Dublin.
March
THEConf - Prof Linda Wagner, Director of the School of Nursing at the University of Bridgeport and a wonderful group of students attended our annual conference, The Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference. It was also heartwarming to reconnect with nursing students Mary McCarthy and Ava Meglio from the University of Pittsburgh at the conference.
Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programme - This programme run by Penn University offers students the chance to participate in various global experiences, through virtual connections and exchange with international communities, experts, and peers from March for 8 weeks (about 2 months). 19 SF and JS students enrolled in the programme this year.
New Collaboration - A new agreement of collaboration was reached with the University of Queensland.
Renewed collaborations - agreements of collaboration were renewed with the University of Pittsburgh, Taipei University, the University of Scranton and Duke University.

Visit from Lund University Delegation - We were delighted to welcome Anneli Sundberg, Annika Lundin de Albuquerque, Camilla Christensson and Jeanette Johansson from Lund University, Sweden, on their first visit to Trinity College Dublin. They also took the opportunity to visit our Clinical Skills Centre located at St James's Hospital Dublin and travelled to Tallaght University Hospital where they met with Nurse Practice Development Coordinators and CPCs.

International Summer School 2025 - this year we welcomed 19 students from the University of Pittsburgh with their accompanying faculty member Prof. Becky Lee Faett, and two students who have joined us from the University of Hong Kong. The students were immersed in learning more about healthcare in Ireland and enjoyed a variety of lectures, debates, clinical observation and cultural activities.
PENN GRIP programme - Students from the University of Pennsylvania interned as Research Assistants with our Principal Investigators as part of the PENN Global Research & Internship Program (GRIP), an 8-week internship programme.

UMass delegation - Our colleagues from Trinity Centre for Ageing and Intellectual Disability hosted a delegation from University of Massachusetts Amherst led by Prof. Ashley Woodman.
New Erasmus partner, University of Maribor - A memorandum of understanding was signed with the University of Maribor, Slovenia, as an Erasmus site for undergraduate General Nursing students.

More international visitors - We welcomed Prof. Jeanette Rossetti (Northern Illnois University), Prof. Brandy Mechling (University of North Carolina Wilmington) and Asst. Prof. Tina LeMaire (Alfred State College) along with 12 of their undergraduate students on a special visit to learn about nursing and healthcare in Ireland.

Kristianstad University visitors - We were delighted to host Professor Anna-Karin Edberg, Professor in Nursing, and Professor Maria Haak, Professor in Health Sciences, from Kristianstad University, Sweden.
Welcoming students from Australia - Robyn Matthews is the first student to undertake International Student Exchange with us from the University of Queensland. Robyn is undertaking a joint General Nursing & Midwifery degree. She is also an elite rower, and is currently rowing with the University of Dublin Ladies Boat Club where she contributed to their recent Intermediate 4+ victory at the Erne Fours Head of the River competition.
Deakin University visit - We welcomed Professor Lauren McTier from Deakin University on a visit to the School this summer.
September
Erasmus 2025 - September saw students from from our partner universities travel to join us for their Erasmus students. Several of our students also departed to commence their Erasmus study opportunities abroad.
October
International scholarships - A significant number of students applied for our International Scholarships to attend Hong Kong University and Duke University (USA) Summer Schools in 2026. Congratulations to the successful scholarship recipients.
Visit to the University of Barcelona - Pádraig Dunne, Clinical Allocations Manager, and Dr Rosemarie Derwin, Assistant Professor, visited the University of Barcelona as a new Erasmus Placement site for undergraduate General Nursing students.

University of Malta Erasmus - General Nursing and Mental Health students on their Erasmus placement at the University of Malta sent us some of these wonderful photographs of their experience.
International scholarships - We had lots of applications for our International Scholarships to attend the University of Sydney and the University of Brisbane. Congratulations to the successful scholarship recipients.

Charlotte Crome and Aaron Lee - are General Nursing students from the University of Sydney who are currently undertaking an international exchange here in Dublin with St James’s Hospital. Aaron is undertaking clinical experience on an acute cardiology ward and the emergency department. Charlotte is undertaking clinical experience on an acute mixed medical ward and the emergency department.
