Admission Requirements

Admission to the MSc in Applied Social Data Science is competitive. Applicants should normally hold a 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent) from an established university. International applicants are expected to have a GPA of at least 3.3 out of 4 (or equivalent).

A background in social science, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline is advantageous but not essential. Applicants should have completed at least an introductory statistics or research methods module (covering applied statistics) during their undergraduate studies. In exceptional cases, applicants with other academic or professional experience may be considered.

All applicants must meet:

• Trinity College Dublin’s general postgraduate entry requirements.
• International applicant entry requirements, where applicable.
• Applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through the medium of English must fulfil the College Postgraduate English language requirements

Students admitted to the programme are required to have access to a laptop (Mac/Windows/Linux) for use in seminars and tutorials. Tablets are not suitable.

In some cases, applicants may be asked to attend an interview or submit additional written material to support their application.

Application Procedure

All applications must be submitted through the Trinity Direct Application Portal. Supporting documents must be provided in English, or accompanied by an official English translation.

You will need to upload:

• Official academic transcript(s)
  (Unofficial or partial transcripts are accepted initially; final transcripts are required for an unconditional offer.)
• Copy of degree certificate(s)
• Two letters of recommendation
  (Referees receive an automatic email request once your application is submitted. Academic references are preferred, but professional references are also accepted.)
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Writing sample
  (A paper or thesis chapter of 12–20 pages is preferred; other research or professional writing samples may be accepted.)
  
• Motivation letter/personal statement
  (A one-page statement outlining your interest in the programme, relevant skills or experience, and post-graduation plans.)
• Valid English language test results, if applicable

Applications open: November
Deadline for submission: End of July
Applications are considered on a rolling basis from February to June, or until the programme reaches capacity. Early application is strongly encouraged.

What Happens Next?

Once your application is complete:

• It will be reviewed by the Course Admissions Sub-Committee.
• A recommendation will be made to Trinity’s Academic Registry.
• You will receive an update through the application portal.
• If offered a place, you will have three weeks to accept and pay a deposit.
