Uncomfortable Dublin: Co-creating a Critical Tour of Dublin

Dr Joe Whelan: Social work and social policy

Dr Caitlin White: Education

Dr Patrick Walsh: History

The Uncomfortable Dublin project will co-create a critical walking tour of Dublin city in collaboration with local communities, researchers at TCD and Uncomfortable Oxford (a social enterprise at the University of Oxford known for its evidence-based and socially engaged tours). The project adapts the Uncomfortable Tours methodology to the Irish context, combining rigorous academic research with co-creation, walking as creative method, and civic participation. While Dublin and Trinity’s history is widely represented in heritage and tourism narratives, many stories of inequality, migration, gender, class, and empire remain underexplored. This project responds to the need for more inclusive, critical, and participatory approaches to public history.
