Equip your organisation to compete with purpose and comply with the emerging body of human rights and environmental due diligence regulation. 

Designed and delivered in collaboration between Trinity Executive Education, the Trinity Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) and the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights (GBI).

What does the programme offer you?

  • An in-depth understanding of human rights and environmental due diligence, as embedded in EU legislation including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Deforestation Regulation. 
  • A practical tool-box to prepare and equip your organisation to comply with legislative requirements and relevant international standards. 
  • Business knowledge and skills to engage with stakeholders to embed  business and human rights principles and practices in strategy, operations, communications and reporting. 
  • The ability to accelerate the ESG performance of your organisation.

Programme details

This course covers:

  • Requirements of key regulatory and normative international frameworks, including EU Green Deal legislation on sustainability due diligence, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct.  
  • The broader business and moral case for embedding human rights in firm strategy, governance and operations (including case studies).
  • Due diligence as the cornerstone of business and human rights practice. 
  • Tools and approaches for assessing and addressing human rights risks and impacts, including potential remedies. 
  • The global context for human rights, including case studies and testimony on corporate malfeasance and the role of human rights defenders.
  • Core elements of purpose-driven systemic change and how these may be understood and deployed for BHR- related organisational initiatives.

  • Middle and senior managers and board members of corporations and SMEs operating in Ireland, including firms in professional services, manufacturing, finance, ICT and related supplier industries
  • Sustainability Managers, CSR Managers, Community Affairs Directors and Corporate Affairs Directors

Programme delivery

Six online sessions of 2.5 hours.  

Programme Director:

Benn Hogan

Benn is a manager within the human rights practice at Forvis Mazars, where he supports clients on the development of their human rights due diligence approach. He was previously director of the peer learning programme at the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights (GBI), supporting practitioners to advance respect for human rights within their companies. His research benchmarking business and human rights in Ireland has been published by the Trinity Centre for Social Innovation. He has consulted for a range of institutions, including the World Bank, International Labour Organisation and the Danish Institute for Human Rights. He holds an M.Sc. in Development Practice and an LL.B. in Law and Business from Trinity College Dublin.

Ron Popper 

Ron is Chief Executive Officer at the Global Business Intiative on Human Rights (GBI). He leads the GBI team to maximise value for members, strengthen engagement with a wide range of stakeholders in different parts of the world, and ensure that the voice of business practitioners is heard at key events on the corporate responsibility to respect human rights.
