Biography

Hongjing Yang is a PhD candidate in Business at Trinity College Dublin, with a research focus on behavioral finance, cryptocurrencies, and social mental health. Her work explores how investor behavior—such as speculative tendencies, herding, overconfidence, and loss aversion—drives market volatility and the adoption of cryptocurrencies. Building on her MSc in Law and Finance from Trinity College, Hongjing's academic background includes extensive work on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and sustainability. Her dissertation, Transparency and Integration: The EU’s Corporate Disclosure Policies and Their Political Underpinnings, provided valuable insights into the intersection of regulatory frameworks and ESG factors. Additionally, her undergraduate studies in Economics at Waseda University, where she conducted a quantitative analysis of COVID-19 policies in different political regimes.

Hongjing’s practical research experience includes her role as an Equity Research Intern at Southbank Capital, where she conducted financial analysis the London Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market, identifying key risks and arbitrage opportunities that enhanced portfolio diversification. Furthermore, as a Research Assistant at HSBC Hong Kong, she contributed to comprehensive reports on the global semiconductor industry, helping to identify strategic investment opportunities through rigorous data analysis. These experiences have strengthened her ability to analyze market trends and investment risks, which directly inform her research in cryptocurrencies and sustainable finance.

Hongjing’s current research aims to bridge gaps between socially responsible investing, digital finance, and behavioral economics, contributing to a deeper understanding of market dynamics in the evolving landscape of cryptocurrencies and market behaviors.
